Did anyone else not see this coming from Blizzard? I know I didn’t expect these changes. Blizzard is implementing a different way of raiding in Cataclysm that is going to make some people very happy, and others quite upset. The raids will still be 10 and 25 mans, but the gear is going to be exactly the same! Yes, I said it, if you were to go into a 25 man raid in Cataclysm; the same gear (item level, name, everything) is going to be the same as the 10 man version. Now when I first heard this, I thought, “okay two chances a week to get the gear I need, not to bad”, but no, there are changing being made to effect this too. You are only going to be able to do each raid once per week. This means the raid lockout is going to be universal amongst both 10 and 25 mans.
You probably are really confused as to why you would ever run a 25 man again in Cataclysm. Blizzard is making it so 25 mans drop more emblems, more gold, and better looting chances. So if you were going to be getting 1-2 emblems in 10 man, you will probably be getting 2-4 in a 25 man. The same goes for the looting, if one piece of gear was going to be dropping from 10 man then 2-3 pieces of gear will drop in the 25 man version. So there are reasons for you to try and get into the 25, rather then just quickly attempting the easy way out.
Also, some changes will be implemented to making raids shorter. Blizzard is aware that a lot of time must be put aside each time you are planning to go into a lot of the raids during Wrath of the Lich King. They are going to be making more raid options, dropping the same item level gear, but there will be fewer bosses in each of these. This can also help your problem of not being able to do a 10, and a 25 man of the same instance in one week. Now you’re going to have a wider majority of raids to do.
Now this may be the end to all big raiding guilds in the future, but if not it will give all the smaller raiding guilds a chance to keep up with the larger guilds gear scores. There will be no more raiders leaving your smaller guilds to run off in hopes of being accepting to that huge population guild. Blizzard is trying to give all guilds a chance when Cataclysm is released, and in doing so is giving them more chances to get the same item level gear.
A lot of the changes made are going to have different views from a vast majority of people. Either way I like a lot of the changes being made, besides for being a little upset about to universal lockout. They are fixing it by having more raid options with less of time consumption on each, which I like, but I’ve always liked having that back up chance to get emblems and gear from the same place. Well, for all you heavy raiders out there, this is your chance to have more of a life! Now instead of raiding for 3-4 hours, you’ll get a whole raid done in 1-2! I’ll be sure to keep all my readers posted on anymore changes brought to raid progression in Cataclysm.
