Once again U.S. Senatorial candidate Christine O’Donnell, R-Delaware, is the recipient of a smear campaign revolving around something that happened in 1999–over 10 years ago.
It’s WITCHCRAFT, oh my! But the hoop-la is actually much ado about nothing, which is nothing new when it comes to sleazy attacks on Tea Party-endorsed candidates.
TV personality and rabid atheist Bill Maher has contributed to the smear by airing clips of O’Donnell from her appearances on his show, ‘Politically Incorrect,’ over 10 years ago. Maher says he will continue to air embarrassing clips of O’Donnell until she agrees to be a guest on his show.
The clip from 1999 shows O’Donnell discussing the fact that she went on a date with a witch–a warlock–who took her on a picnic on top of a ‘Satanic altar.’
Not surprisingly, the politically elite, even in the Republican Party, jumped on the controversial disclosure as more ‘proof’ that O’Donnell is a ‘kook.’
The public should thus be entitled to full information about every single person the elitists ever dated in the past, just to be sure they never dated anyone who was, say, ‘unusual.’
Of course, anyone who has done any serious dating has encountered their share of weirdos. Only a tiny minority has managed to escape the dating scene without having several hair-raising stories to tell concerning ‘dates from hell.’
But the politically elite conveniently ignore such truths, deftly avoiding any question concerning their own past dating experiences, or even embarrassing statements they have made in the past. Even Harry Reid is on record stating that paying taxes is ‘voluntary.’ And he made the statement just last year.
It is much more convenient for the elitists of the ruling class to use such an incident to smear a candidate who has proved that the people themselves prefer non-incumbents over Washington insiders, rather than deal with their own skeletons in the closet.
O’Donnell represents a clear repudiation of the political ruling class. And the elitists can’t stand it.
These inside-the-beltway goldbricks have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at O’Donnell. She is kooky because she dated a warlock…10 years ago. She is kooky because she went on MTV to encourage the younger set to avoid masturbation and to save their sexual experiences for marriage. She is kooky because she belongs to a conservative, evangelical Christian church.
It should be noted that at one time these issues were not controversial at all. It was generally accepted in American society that sex was to be reserved for marriage. The fact that our values as a nation have changed does not make one who still adheres to them a ‘kook.’ There are multi-millions of Americans who agree with O’Donnell.
And even if they disagree, these issues are not enough to justify a vote against her. Her job as a Senator will be based upon holding to the conservative, Tea Party issues of cutting government spending, lowering taxes, accountability and honesty in Washington, and a desire to undo the damage done to the nation by Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress.
This is the focus of the Senate race in Delaware no matter how much O’Donnell’s enemies seek to make peripheral issues a central feature of the campaign. It is very interesting that Karl Rove, GOP elitist operatives, and the political establishment avoid talking about the issue that propelled O’Donnell to victory. They had rather engage in personal smears, drawing attention away from the fact that the citizens want people like O’Donnell in Washington instead of the beltway elitists–in both Parties–who have run the country into the ground.
