Dayton OH – September 20, 2010
It was just about a year ago, that we were discussing the close-to-full-house at McGuffy’s House of Rock after the last Skid Row show. (Feel free to say that a few times.)
This Friday night (September 24th) Skid Row will headline another show at McGuffy’s and word is that it’s close to a sell-out crowd again.
Last year at times, it was challenge at times getting from the stage area to the bar, because there were so many people.
Skid Row is one of the reasons that Shawn Kelble of Xenia came to McGuffy’s to see that show.
Kelble says that he came to the show with 50 others on a bus from Xenia, and another 50 or so were also at McGuffy’s House of Rock to see Skid Row, with opening acts Desalitt and The Mighty Swine.
Kelble added that he felt the older crowd meant the audience would be more likely to be respectful of others, and “come out to enjoy life.”
And enjoy they did.
There was loud music, and a cluster of people around the A/C outlet vent in the center of the club.
And except for that island of cool, despite the outside temperature being cool, it got warmer the closer you got to the stage.
While considered a metal band because of the heavy use of guitars, Skid Row during last year’s show was more party rock than ‘goth rock,’ and the crowd cheered them along.
Of course, there was that great guitar riff to open the show. And with Riot Act, they showed some of the ‘edge’ of metal music, and the crowd responded.
After the first couple of songs last year, Johnny Solinger enjoyed lots of cheers and applause, during which Solinger said, “Ohio, it’s been way too long, man!”
That of course, brought more cheers, and Solinger said, “When we saw this date on the calendar, we could not wait to get back to Dayton, cuz it’s been way to long!”
This year Skid Row takes the stage on Friday night at McGuffy’s House of Rock.
And don’t be afraid to sing along, part of the fun is how quickly you can figure out the next song.
Last year, Solinger said, “it’s old school, you… come get a piece of me!” as they began the next song, which was of course, Piece of Me, and the crowd by the third word had caught on, and was already singing along.
