Last Intimate Performance Tour
With Chris Simmons opening at 8 p.m!
Leon was born April 2, 1941, in Lawton, Oklahoma He’s been rightfully named as singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, and entrepreneur, record company executive and multi-instrumentalist. While he tasted great honors as a solo star in the early 70s, it’s his all-round contribution, much of it in the background that has made him a vitally important figure in rock music for more than 30 years. His personal session band included Steve Winwood, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ringo Starr, and includes playing with Bob Dylan and Dave Mason. While Leon Russell has already earned his retirement twice over and his place in the history books, he continues to tour, record and write. And we all couldn’t be happier!
The highly anticipated collaboration album, “The Union”, between two musical legends, Elton John and Leon Russell, will be released on October 19th. This album marks the first time these iconic artists have worked together since 1970 and was produced by Oscar and multiple-Grammy winning producer T Bone Burnett, who took home numerous, awards in 2009 for his production work on Raising Sand with Robert Plant and Alison Krause. The Union features songs written by John and his lifelong lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as in combination with the extraordinary talents of Russell and Burnett.
If there were such an award, Leon Russell would be a contender for “the most outstanding all-round contribution to rock music award”. Seeing this rock-n-roll legend perform his last intimate performance on the Gruene Hall stage will be a rock-n-roll experience of a lifetime! Tickets are $30.00 and can be picked up at will call. https://tickets.gruenehall.com/
