Perrine Elementary in Palmetto Bay, FL is one of ten national finalists who have been entered into Neutrogena’s Choose Skin Health competition on Facebook. The winner will receive a sun shade to cover their common gathering or playground area.
This Choose Skin Health contest will be won by the entrant who gathers the most votes on Facebook — one vote per Facebook account. Voting ends September 22nd, so you must act now in order to help Perrine Elementary win the sun shade.
Baby, it’s hot outside
Perrine Elementary School has a student body of 850 students and hosts before- and after-care programs as well as summertime camps and activities. Having a sun shade covering their playground area would benefit untold numbers of children in our community who will be served by this elementary school in the many years to come.
Anyone who has taken children outside to play on a hot summer day in Miami, a season which seems to last longer each year, knows how uncomfortable it can be. And it’s not just the heat and humidity that are the problem — the actual playground equipment, which is typically made of metal and plastic components, reaches temperatures that are hot enough to burn the skin and inflict serious pain and injury.
The Choose Skin Health contest on Facebook
The contest was entered by Perrine Elementary parent Cindy Medina, who is quoted here from a Palmetto Bay press release:
“I entered the contest because I know it would take years for Perrine Elementary PTA to raise the necessary funds for a sun shade structure, and there is an immediate need for it today. The equipment retains the sun’s heat, therefore the children sometimes cannot play on it when they are in recess or aftercare. Winning this contest will facilitate the school’s desire to promote and model smart sun safety practices.”
