It was a wild night in Chicago, as WWE presented “Night of Champions” on pay-per-view. It was a good night for the newest native to Austin, Texas, as Michelle McCool. She defeated Melina to unify the WWE Women’s Championship and the Divas Championship. The Undertaker didn’t fare out as well however, as he fell to defeat at the hands of Kane in his first pay-per-view match in nearly five months. Here are the results from tonight’s huge event.
In the opening match, Dolph Ziggler pinned Kofi Kingston to retain the Intercontinental Championship. Vickie Guerrero attempted to get involved, however Ziggler stopped that and hit the Zig Zag for the win.
CM Punk came out to a mixed hometown reaction. He got on the mic and mentioned how he loved the various aspects of Chicago, including landmarks and even pizza. But he hated the people of Chicago. He berated the fans for a few more minutes before The Big Show came out and shut his mouth. Punk tried to get a quick advantage, however that was quickly cast aside as Big Show picked up the win with a thunderous chokeslam.
In a match that many had seen coming since the first season of NXT, Daniel Bryan came out in hopes of winning the United States Championship from The Miz. Both men battled back and forth and even spilled outside the ring. However it was Bryan who locked in the submission victory and walking out of Chicago with the US Title, to a shocked and amazed Miz.
The Divas were up next in a Lumberjill Match, as Women’s Champion Michelle McCool put her gold on the line against the defending Divas Champion Melina, where the winner would become the new Unified Divas Champion. After all the divas got involved, Layla got in the ring distraction Melina. This gave McCool the opportunity she needed to pick up the win and become the new Unified Divas Champion.
In a brutal match for the World Heavyweight Championship, Kane picked up a big pinfall win over his brother The Undertaker to retain the belt. Kane was responsible for the phenom of the WWE being out of action for the last five months, and the Undertaker was coming back for revenge. At one point in the match, Taker hit a chokeslam on Kane. However when he went for the Tombstone Piledriver, Kane reversed it and hit one of his own, putting down his brother for the three count.
The WWE Tag Team Championships were on the line as The Hart Dynasty (DH Smith and Tyson Kidd) defended the gold in a Tag Team Turmoil match. The elimination style match also featured Jimmy and Jay Uso, Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, Evan Bourne and Mark Henry, and Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. The champions were surprisingly eliminated first, as the newly formed team of Rhodes and McIntyre outlasted all to get the victory and with the titles. The order of elimination is below:
- The Usos eliminated The Hart Dynasty
- The Usos eliminated Santino and Kozlov
- Bourne and Henry eliminated The Usos

The main event was the 6-Pack Elimination Match for the WWE Championship. Sheamus was a marked man from the beginning, as he was forced to defend the gold against John Cena, Randy Orton, Edge, Chris Jericho and NEXUS frontman Wade Barrett. It was too much for Sheamus to deal with, as The Viper claimed his 7th WWE Championship to the delight of a full house in Chicago. It was a bittersweet night for Chris Jericho, as he was the first man eliminated. He vowed a few weeks ago that if he couldn’t capture the WWE Championship he would leave WWE. A quick strike from an RKO sent Jericho packing early, but to a thunderous “Y2J” chant from the crowd. Here is the order of elmination for the main event.
- Orton eliminated Jericho with an RKO
- Cena eliminated Edge with the Attitude Adjustment
- Wade Barrett eliminated Cena with his Wasteland finisher
- Orton eliminated Barrett with an RKO
- Orton pinned Sheamus after an RKO to win the match and become WWE Champion.
