Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey are making waves in TV land this week. TMZ and other sources report that Lopez is “this close” to signing on with American Idol. In other TV news, Oprah Winfrey has announced that she will pick a new selection for Oprah’s Book Club when her talk show returns for its 25th and final season.
Jennifer Lopez on American Idol?
According to TMZ and inside sources, Jennifer Lopez is “this close” to signing on with American Idol. Contrary to recent rumors, there have been no diva demands or drama. “It’s been typical negotiating with someone whose professional entourage rivals the state of Rhode Island,” one source was quoted. A deal should be signed, sealed and delivered as soon as next week, providing there are no last minute snags. During last week’s Emmy Awards, Idol’s new producer, Nigel Lythgow said that he wanted to have the new judges in place within a 3-week time period. It looks like his plan is working. Recent reports state that Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler will be Idol’s second new judge. This has not been confirmed yet.
Oprah’s Book Club Pick
The Oprah Winfrey Show will make its 25th season debut on Monday, September 13th. A Harpo spokesperson said that Oprah would announce her latest selection for Oprah’s Book Club on Friday, September 17th. It will be her 64th pick since the Book Club debuted 14 years ago. Her first selection, The Deep End of the Ocean, was announced on September 17, 1996. Upon being selected by Oprah, the books quickly rise on the New York Times Bestseller List and the authors become more popular than ever. Oprah’s last pick was Say You’re One Of Them by Uwem Akpan. Harpo has not said if Oprah’s latest pick will be her last. The Oprah Winfrey Show will leave the airwaves forever after this season. Oprah Winfrey will return to TV with a brand new network called OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).
