There is a lot of ground to cover in the 8th house. Scorpio is the natural ruler of this house. This is the house of the sex life, which serves certain purposes. Sex is not evil but a human and necessary part of life. It just needs to be channeled and expressed naturally. First of all, this produces children to carry on your name and inherit your money and jewelry. Sex is for most people an outlet for excess energies as well as a means of rejuvenating yourself. Some feel relaxed and pleasant afterwards, but others feel invigorated and recharged. Sometimes it’s a combination of both. Many other activities have that recharging ability. For some it’s cooking, for others it’s reading, meditating, traveling, hiking, camping, or playing sports like tennis or golf. People have different needs and individual favorite activities. Example: a person with Aries or Sagittarius on the 8th house cusp would likely have an active sex life. The fire signs make enthusiastic partners, and they also benefit from participating in sports. Your desires are strong if you have Mars or Venus in the 8th house. Pisces on the cusp would enjoy romance, movies and poetry. Gemini isn’t very highly sexed but likes conversation and flirtation. Cancer on the cusp needs lots of cuddling and mothering and also likes to cook gourmet meals. And so on.
In the 8th house when we talk about money, it means the money we share with others. This means bank accounts and property you share with your spouse. To a certain extent it includes money you invest in stocks or other people’s business ventures.
Inheritance is money and property you acquire after someone has died. If the aspects are good, you may inherit a lot of money. The 8th house rules death, including the death of your loved ones. This includes funeral homes, cemeteries and crematoriums. Sometimes but not always, the sign on the cusp shows the cause of death, such as illness of one kind or another, violence, suicide or a peaceful departure. Remember, the 4th house cusp also shows the conditions at the end of life.
In relation to death, the 8th house is also the house of loss. If there are afflictions here, you may experience losses in your life, such as money, possessions as well as someone you dearly love or depend on. I had a friend years ago in Midland Park, Bergen County, who taught me astrology and palmistry. She was a really fine person, a Pisces, friendly and generous. She had the Moon in the 8th house, and regarding loss she explained that she lost her mother when she was a little girl. Much later, a drunk driver killed one of her children. The Moon rules mothers and children. She lost her mother and she lost a child.
Another area covered by the 8th house is occult sciences, including astrology, fortune telling, psychic ability, séances, communicating with the dead, raising spiritual consciousness and searching for answers to the mysteries of life. Aquarius rules astrology, but as an occult tool for ferreting out dark secrets, it is considered an 8th house activity. If you have several planets in the 8th house, you may dabble in some of these things. And you may have psychic ability. You have prophetic dreams. Some people who have a morbid fascination with death or a desire to study new age practices have an active 8th house especially with Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto.
