The Parents Television Council released a statement today taking the producers of hit television show Glee to task for a recent GQ magazine cover.
The magazine cover features Glee actors, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, and Lea Michelle, posing in provocative poses, Michelle wearing not more than a bra and panties.
“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way. It borders on pedophilia,” said PTC President Tim Winter.
Glee actors Lea Michelle and Dianna Agron are both 24-years old. Cory Monteith is 28.
“Many children who flocked to High School Musical have grown into Glee fans,” the statement continued. “They are now being treated to seductive, in-your-face poses of the underwear-clad female characters posing in front of the school lockers, one of them opting for a full-frontal crotch shot. By authorizing this kind of near-pornographic display, the creators of the program have established their intentions of the show’s direction. And it isn’t good for families.”
The Glee cast didn’t seem to have a problem with shooting the photos, although Michelle said some of the photos were surprising.
“I don’t know how they got me to do half the stuff I did,” Michelle said. “But I was in really good shape this summer, so…”
The issue of GQ with the Glee photo-shoot hits stands on October 26.
Glee is preparing to air their homage to The Rocky Horror Picture Show just in time for Halloween.
