Tailgating 101: The Lounge at Agua Caliente Casino and Spa

by echo flam

This is the first in a series of articles that recognizes places in the valley where you can enjoy Monday Night Football. Come back every Wednesday morning during football season to read about a different restaurant offering special deals on food, liquor and wine for your football and food fulfillment.

There is no better union than football and tailgating. It is the ultimate combination of grub and grime and what better game to start this season off with than the definitive tailgate city; Kansas City Chiefs. With their barbecue reputation, one can imagine the aroma at a game there. And if you’re a somewhat respectable football enthusiast, you know the scent.

Our valley has no short supply of places to enjoy the sport. This week’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers was a game for the locals. With San Diego’s close proximity to the valley, they have a very strong fan base here. Qualcomm Stadium is only 130 or so miles from Palm Springs. The next closest team isn’t even in California; the Arizona Cardinals are 270 miles away.

But the Chargers could not withstand Kansas City’s special teams. A rookie and a second year pro racked up 14 points themselves giving Kansas City a 21-14 victory. Philip Rivers just could not shake the ghost of past quarterback Ryan Leaf who had a similar fate years ago in the same weather conditions. But enough about football; this is an article about food, after all.

So, if you’re looking for true tailgate food, look no further. The Lounge at Agua Caliente Casino and Spa can dole it out like the best of them. For $7.00, you can enjoy three hours of grazing, munching and ingesting as many wings, loaded potato skins, chili dogs, sub sandwiches and grilled veggies as your stomach will allow. To wash it all down, there are the buckets of beer (5) for $15.00 with other drink specials available.

If the food and football get you through the door, then the fact that the radio station, 106.9 The Eagle, is giving away prizes all night will keep you there. There are halftime games to play, raffle drawings and the occasional tossing of t-shirts, water bottles and stress balls in the shape of footballs all with prizes attached to them. They have a grand prize raffle for a custom sport recliner, a cooler and a very nice outdoor fire pit. The winner will be drawn during the last Monday night football game on December 27.

Therefore, for food, football and friends, or just fellow enthusiasts, try the The Lounge at Agua Caliente Casino and Spa next Monday night!
