At the corner of Main Street, as you enter Greenport, N.Y. is the cheerful greeting of Sweet Indulgences. A combination of sweets and products from Long Island and surrounding areas, here you’ll find gifts and confections for any occasion. Sweet Indulgences is a pleasant and polished mix of nostalgia, fun and creativity.
Candy & Christmas
In the early 90’s, after many years in the retail business, Angela Oliveri-Deroski and her husband, Frank moved back to Long Island from New Jersey to open Sweet Indulgences. A candy shop that has since evolved into a gift shop, Sweet Indulgences is a product of the shop’s creator, Frank Deroski’s two favorite things, candy and Christmas.
From its red and white striped awning to the nostalgic candy counter, you’ll find a taste of the holidays and Long Island throughout the store. The candy counter is filled with nostalgic and holiday favorites, sold by the pound or by the piece. Ribbon candy, sugar plum candy, Turkish taffy, 25 varieties of licorice, and a wide variety of chocolate and candy coated pretzels, candy corn, pumpkin truffles, fruit slices, marzipan, Godiva chocolates and more, make for a colorful and irresistible selection of sweets.
Behind the counter and in the front window, you’ll find nostalgic, restored items by Mattituck artist, Peter Warns. A restored 1905 cash register and Planter’s Peanuts scale compliment the busy counter and newer holiday items. “The store is eclectic”, says owner Angela Oliveri-Deroski. There is something for everyone. “No one walks out empty handed”, says Angela. They buy something, “even a piece of penny candy”.
At Christmastime, the outside garden is the backdrop for banjo playing, Santa Claus, Warren McKnight. Warren has been entertaining customers and posing for pictures as Santa for the past 15 years. Christmas is truly a fun time at Sweet Indulgences.
Sweet Indulgences carries a host of Long Island products by local manufacturers, writers and artists. Ben’s Gardens of Oyster Bay has been making decoupage French glass coasters, maps, trays and specialty items for the store for ten years. Designer, Michael Aram, has created several kitchen items, cutting boards, scented candles and Christmas ornaments with silver accents. Affordably priced and elegant, they make wonderful gifts or accents to your home.
Jake Rajs, a local writer and photographer, formerly with National Geographic Magazine, has several books on sale at Sweet Indulgences. Among them, Between Sea & Sky: Landscapes of the Long Island North Fork and Beyond the Dunes, Portrait of the Hamptons.
Long Island’s, Really Good Fruit Spreads are also available in a wide variety of classic flavors. These jams also come in several specialty flavors such as Pear & Ginger Fruit Spread that compliment sauces and holiday recipes. The Hampton’s own Barefoot Contessa’s waffle and pancake mixes can also be found here.
