You have been running, trying to escape, all your life. But no matter where you go, there they are. Every time you think that you are starting over, with new people; new surroundings; new identity…. everything appears to be great! It’s all new, and the people are celebrating you. It’s all new, and you love it.
After some days, maybe some weeks; possibly some months, something terrible happens! You look up and there he/she is…. It never fails, just when you think you have gotten away from their bad attitude; ugly habits and depressed state, they show up! You don’t understand it, and they ruin everything, because once they show up, they never leave. They expose themselves to everyone, and now the secret is out, and everything is just the way it was in the last place that you ran from. It was all new; but now it’s all over.
Here come the same feelings of anger and resentment; frustration and emptiness. And now you have to start the cycle all over again. Packing up and leaving; running and hiding, but it just doesn’t work. What’s the problem? Why can’t you go to a new place; with new people and start everything new, all over again?
The problem is that everything is new, except you. You are frustrated with people; unhappy with things; discontent with circumstances. Then you run somewhere else looking for something better and something new…. But there is one problem; you are still the same; and eventually the real you shows up in the new place. And no matter where you go or who you meet, if you don’t change, everything else stays the same. There are new people and new surroundings; but the same you. The same things that bothered you before will bother you again. The same anger you had, is the same anger you have. The same complaining you did; is the same complaining you will do. Nothing gets better if YOU don’t change.
Being in Christ means we become new creatures. Being in Christ does not mean that we stay the same, and expect everything around us to conform to our liking. Everyplace you go, remember that you are going with you. If you don’t allow God to fix you in the circumstances then you will always face the same challenges; the same irritations and the same kind of people. Why? Because if you don’t change; nothing will. The only person you are running from is yourself. So if you find that you keep running to new places with new people, but you continue to get the same old results, then it is time for you to change.
A new place + the old you = the same old stuff.
Any place + the NEW you = new life with new results
Go ahead and try it….stop running from yourself…instead let God fix you and mold you; change you and renew you. Put off the old man and put on the new man.
