Sci-fi fans young and old are all buzzing about the upcoming Star Trek Fan Days convention to be held at the Plano Convention Center on October 23rd and 24th. Ben Stevens of OfficialPix.com and Mark Walters of BigFanBoy.com, the guys behind the Dallas Comic Con and Star Wars Fan Days, have a history of giving the metroplex top-notch sci-fi conventions. Their events have always been a great place to connect with fans of different genres and spend some disposable income on rare or unique collectibles. The conventions also offer free panels and workshops open to all attendees of the show at no extra charge.
An impressive list of Star Trek celebrities and artists will appear at the convention. At the top of that list is Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. Shatner may be remembered best for his iconic role of the intrepid space explorer, but one can not forget the other roles that show his diversity as an actor. Among some of Shatner’s other iconic roles are T.J. Hooker, Boston Legal’s Denny Crane or the hilarious character, Stan Fields, who practically stole the show in the Sandra Bullock film Miss Congeniality. This is a rare Dallas appearance for Shatner, which has North Texas fans particularly excited.
Also appearing at the convention will be Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Brent Spiner (Data). Frakes also directed the feature film Star Trek First Contact, which is hailed by many fans and critics as the best of the Next Generation movies. Christopher Lloyd, who played Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, will also be in attendance. Lloyd also encompasses a long list of memorable screen characters such as Back to the Future’s Doc Brown and Taxi’s Jim Ignatowski. Attendees will also get a chance to meet other Star Trek and sci-fi actors as well as several comic and film artists.
Even if you are not a Trekkie, this convention will still have something for you. Whether you are a fan of Star Wars, anime, comics, or even zombies, you can bet your interests will be represented at the expo. Fans who hate fighting large crowds might consider attending on Sunday, since the attendance is generally lower. Keep in mind, however, that William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd will only be appearing on Saturday.
