So, you’re planning a weekend trip to Vegas and trying to figure out where to stay and what to do. If you’re looking for a heck of a deal check out South Point. The rooms are spacious and nice enough. No, they aren’t a four-diamond resort, but they do have all the comforts of home at a very reasonable rate. I stayed for $60/night in a king room on a Saturday night. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is huge, there is a small couch and table/chairs, nice flat screen TV and great service. To top if off the hotel has a 16-screen movie theater and a 64-lane bowling ally.
South Point has all the bells and whistles including nine restaurants, a pool, entertainment and a fantastic spa/salon. During my last stay I experienced the Big Sur Oyster Bar and spa. I honestly thought the Oyster Bar would be more of a fast food type experience, but boy was I nicely surprised. The setting is casual enough, but the food is excellent. The chefs cook right in front of you in an open-air kitchen. The seafood comes from all over the world: Alaska, Japan, the Atlantic – depending on the season.
The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I asked for a recommendation and I was pleasantly guided. I ordered the Crabcake appetizer with Ocean Salad and then for my entrée I had Seafood Diavolo (shrimp, scallop and lobster in a linguini with a spicy tomato sauce). The Diavolo was one of those dishes you just can’t stop eating, even when you’re full. I couldn’t finish the dish but I did some good damage.
The next morning I had my spa appointment at Costa del Sur in South Point. I was really looking forward to it, a half day of pure bliss. Let me just say if you have never had a half day or full day spa treatment you must, must do it. Do it at least once in your lifetime, and then as often as you can afford it. I had scheduled the Goddess of the Sun Ritual with an add massage and the Skin in Bloom facial.
Prior to my appointment I used the wet area: eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, Jacuzzi, and showers. There are a total of eight showers with four different aromatherapy shower rooms, with the likes of cucumber, citrus, and vanilla.
It was time for my treatment to begin. I meandered to the women’s waiting area. The spa has three separate waiting areas and three separate wet areas including women’s, men’s and couples area. In the waiting area there is complimentary water, tea, cappuccinos, juice, etc. Soon my therapist greeted me and off I went.
The Goddess of the Sun treatment began with a body scrub. This was my first Vichy experience. At first I felt like my body was going through a car wash, but then I fell into blissfulness. The warm water slightly pelted my body, massaging and invigorating my skin all at the same time. The scrubbing, with passionflower, and rinsing continued until my body was tingling with joy. Next, a body wrap along with warm stones placed on my hands and core body nestled me off to a comforting meditative state. Cool stones were applied to my face bringing awareness back into my body and reducing any bagginess left under my eyes from the weeks of hard work I had experienced the previous couple of months.
Off to the massage portion of my treatment. The therapist used a butter cream infused with coconut oil. The smell made me retreat to south pacific island, the music to nirvana. My body was relinquishing to total relaxation. My hair was given a Tahitian oil treatment and my scalp was massaged along with temples and the nap of the neck.
Okay if I wasn’t relaxed enough, I was taken down the hall to get my facial. I have no idea how I got from the massage room to the aesthetic facial room. Somehow I floated or was guided, but I arrived and nestled in. Exfoliation on the face along with a mild collagen treatment left my skin glowing and smooth. I must have dozed off at least three times. I was somewhere between sleep and total relaxation.
After experiencing the spa day at South Point Costa del Sur, I’m beginning to plan a spa day for my sisters and me next year. We have to do this once a year – it doesn’t really seem like an option, but more of a quest. Treating yourself or a loved one to a daylong spa treatment is truly giving a gift of love/tranquility/peace and relaxation.
You can sign up for specials through email and follow South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa on facebook or twitter. South Point has so much to offer, and at a reasonable rate. The hotel is off the strip about 6 miles, so you don’t have to deal with strip traffic. However, it’s close enough to drive or take a shuttle to the strip for a day visit.
Monday – Friday all shows before 4:00 PM for seniors is only $3.00 with their players card.
