Barbara Longue of Cotes de Longue and John Lombardo of Branches Catering have joined forces to bring you Panebianco’s winemaker Rodrigo Redmont for a delicous dinner featuring The wines of Talamonti and Rubino.
Rodrigo Redmont’s previous positions with Fazi Battaglia and Catello Banfi make him uniquely well-suited the Talamonti and Rubino projects.
The Talamonti vineyard-estate began in 2001 as a result of introducing innovative winemaking techniques into an historic winemaking area. A tremendous passion for wine and respect for local Abruzzo culture kicked off this adventure with the goal to promote the interest in Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, the historic grape varieties of the region.
The Rubino vineyards are located along an area of 50 hectares at 8 kilometers north from the province along the Adriatic shore. The primary grapes grown are Negroamaro, Malvasia nera, Susumaniello, Montepulciano, and Sauvignon blanc. The soil is calcareous, with a great presence of sand that ensures a good water balance. These features, along with the closeness of the sea, very good ventilation, and a mild climate, favor perfect maturation of the grapes. At all stages, from the wine-making to the bottling, the Rubinos use innovative techniques. A work in progress, considerable investment is restoring the whole winery. It will be furnished with new enological machines, steel tanks and a huge barricaia for more than 600 barriques made exclusively of French wood.
The dinner and wine menu for the evening is as follows:
Drusian Prosecco Brut
Served with a selection of Italian Cheese from “Cheese on Main” in Ocean Grove.
Talamonti Trebbiano d’Abruzzo v. 2009
Escarole and Beans, Peasant Style
Talamonti Modá Montepulciano d’Abruzzo v. 2008
Radiatore Pasta with Lamb Bolognese
Talamonti Tres Saggi Montepulciano d’Abruzzo v. 2008
Rubino Punta Aquila v. 2007

The cost for the dinner which includes a glass of each wine is $49 per person plus tax.
John Lombardo also informs that additional glasses of wine will be available to diners for about $5 per glass. As an added feature of this dinner, diners will be able to buy bottles of wine to take home that evening at prices ranging from $6.99 to $17.99 per bottle. This is a rare opportunity to try new wines and to round out your wine cellar at the same time.
