“Sister Wives,” the new show on TLC, brings us into a home where polygamy has been practiced for decades. The husband, Kody Brown, has three “sister wives” and he, along with his three “sister wives” are getting ready to bring another “sister wife” on board.
Meri, Janelle, and Christine have a combined 13 children with Kody. Robyn will be the newest “sister wife” as soon as she goes through the religious ceremony they call marriage with Kody and the “sister wives.”
You can only have one legal wife in the State of Utah, and Kody has only one legal wife, with the other “sister wives” being married through a religious ceremony only.
It is apparent that with each new “sister wife” they were younger and cuter than the next, with Robyn, the newest “sister wife” getting ready to jump on board; being exceptionally attractive.
One of the problems that recently have come up with in this house of polygamy is that Kody sealed his engagement to Robyn with a kiss. This kiss as a “seal” is saved for the marriage rite in this “religious” union.
As strange as this may sound; in a house where a man shares his bed with a different woman every night, this kiss caused tears and hurt feelings by both the trio of “sister wives” and Robyn, the new “sister wife” coming into the family.
These women are not what one might call “concubines”, they appear to be above average intellectually, and no one is holding a gun to their heads. They actually prefer this way of life and are doing this of their own free will. They feel this way of life is natural and for the most part, they report it not only works for them, but they love it.
The marriage bond is between all the adults in the house and the women love one another like sisters (most of the time). The ceremony marries the new “sister wife” to the husband and the “sister wives.” There is no sex between the women, just Kody and his “ sister wife” of the night are engaging in sexual relations.
The merging of Robyn into this family is arousing the green eyed monster in the other “sister wives” to varying degrees. Robyn is adorable and she appears to have the same high intelligence level that the other “sister wives” possess.
The Connecticut Post suggests in a recent article that the Brown household is more “mondane” than the “Big Love” sitcom household, which is another show that brings us pologamy in a family. The difference being the Henrickson’s on HBO’s “Big Love” are a fictional family.
