Will “Sesame Street” set a new dress code after dropping Katy Perry? The children’s syndication has pulled Katy Perry after feedback from parents insisting the yellow dress Perry wore revealed too much cleavage. Will a new dress code be set on “Sesame Street” for its celebrity guests?
It’s something that may surface after the latest incident in “Sesame Street” pulling a segment on their show where Perry joins Elmo in the song, “Hot N Cold.” A decision like this doesn’t come without some reprucussions in show business, after all.
After Katy Perry taped the show’s segment, she said that being on “Sesame Street” was “the highlight of my entire career.”
She continued, “I think some of these songs, even though sometimes they have a naughty dimension to them, they are so pop infectious it gets into kids, just like whatever parents are saying around the house will get into kids, and I love that ‘Hot N Cold’ could translate to Sesame Street. I’m gonna have kids someday, and I love that some pop star out there is gonna change their lyrics to make my kids bounce in their diapers.”
It seems that Perry ‘bounced’ a little too much for parents in her revealing dress.
This brings to light a whole new dimension on appropriate dress for children’s televison. How closely will fashion be scrutinized on celebrities making guest appearances on the show after the backlash “Sesame Street” got for Katy Perry’s dress?
A spokesman for the show released a statement saying, “In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers.”
