Today, Scream Franchise Examiner has your Scream 4 update—including the HQ, extended version of the teaser trailer, revelation of the new rules, and commentary from actress Hayden Panettiere.
After a seriously bootleg version of the film’s teaser trailer hit the Internet over the weekend, a high quality, full-length version premiered on Australia’s MovieFix yesterday. Seeing as we live in the age of the Internet, the video quickly went viral, reaching a global audience. Unfortunately, that wasn’t part of the official plan, and The Weinstein Company quickly began yanking the footage. However, the trailer is still out there if you know where to look—and you can also view it below. (It’s frightfully good!)
Our friends at Scream-Trilogy.net have transcribed what would appear to be the “new rules” revealed in said trailer:
Charlie: Modern audiences have become savvy to the rules of the originals. I mean there are still rules, but the rules have changed.
Robbie: The kills have gotta be way more extreme.
Charlie: Unexpected is the new cliché.
Robbie: And virgins can die now.
Charlie: To be the new version, you know, 2.0? The killer should be filming the murders.
So what else does the trailer reveal? Besides both Sidney and Gale having dramatic confrontations with a knife-wielding Ghost Face, it is apparent that technology will be at the forefront of the film. There appears to be a Stab iphone app that’s all the rage with the kiddies and the killer now videotapes his crimes for posterity. (Also of note: While the teaser proudly proclaims director Wes Craven’s participation in the film, there is no mention of franchise originator Kevin Williamson.)
Speaking of Ghost Face, Fun World’s R.J. Torbert, known for his cryptic but topical Tweets, was surprisingly direct when he revealed the following last night: have script for everything ghost face says in Scream 4, sorry cant share it with anyone, but thought you might foam at the mouth for a bit. Don’t know about you, but SFE is looking downright rabid. (For those seeking more thought provoking content, here are a few of Torbert’s most recent updates: when it comes to living and dying, things are not always what they appear and A BRAVE “HEART” is a very powerful weapon”)
Meanwhile, Spike TV broadcast the 2010 Scream Awards last night. Filmed on Saturday at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the show featured appearances by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Emma Roberts, and Craven, who presented (supposedly) never-before-seen footage from Scream 4. You can view video of their introduction here, courtesy of ET Online.
In other news, actress Hayden Panettiere has echoed Neve Campbell’s sentiments, telling DigitalSpy.com that filming Scream 4 was “kind of like going to camp.” She continued, “”It has that same vibe – it’s very mellow. People are very cool, very down-to-earth and very low-key. It’s not one of those super-uptight sets to be on. It’s such a cool thing to be involved with something that’s been around for so long – we haven’t seen a Scream film in quite a few years.” (You can see video from the interview here.)
