From Thursday, October 21 through Sunday, October 24 the delightful Soquel restaurant Tortilla Flats is featuring a special Crepes menu (see end of article for details). Crepes were introduced to Mexico in the 19th century by way of Emperor Maximillian, the France-backed leader installed in Mexico.
Owner and Chef Cheryl Marquez is excited about the crepes recipes she has developed, including the new Dorado Crepes with spicy chicken or shrimp filling and yellow pepper sauce – yum! She reminds potential diners that crepes can be “a light (and low carb) variation on the tortilla.” I’m looking forward to Marquez’s always-innovative and tasty selections. One of the many crepes I’m enticed by is Crepas Del Mar, which includes Peruvian chile aji limo grown by Marquez in her own one-acre garden.
Tortilla Flats and Marquez, who have been satisfying Santa Cruz Mexican food fans for more than 30 years, offer a variety of monthly events with special menus that are always creative and delicious. During these times the regular restaurant menu is also available with savory dishes like Chicken Mole Enchiladas (moist, flavorful, and highly recommended).

Saffron flavored crepes with chicken and red pepper sauce.
Blue Corn Crepes
Blue corn crepes with chicken and Santa Fe red sauce.
With shrimp or chicken with Chipotle cream sauce.
