Russian spy Anna Chapman on cover of men’s magazine half-naked, with gun
RUSSIA — Twenty-eight-year-old Anna Chapman, Russia’s high-profile spy that was ousted from the United States this summer, will reportedly appear on the cover of Russia’s Maxim magazine half-naked and with a gun.
Russia’s state-run RIA Novosti reported that Chapman will appear on the magazine’s cover armed with a revolver and wearing nylon and lace.
A photo on the Russian Maxim website shows her sitting on a red couch with two shooting targets in the background.
“Anna has done more to excite patriotism in Russians than our football team and the Bulava missile put together,” RIA Novosti quoted the magazine as saying.
Chapman is one of 10 Russian spies to have been exchanged for four Western agents released by Moscow in a spy swap on the tarmac at Vienna airport earlier this summer.
The spies were expelled from the U.S. after pleading guilty in a Manhattan court to conspiracy to act as a unregistered agents of a foreign country. The prisoner exchange was reminiscent of the Cold War era.
In August a Russian magazine called Heat threatened to sue Chapman for breach of contract when she posted racy pictures of herself on Facebook. The photos had been taken during a photo shoot with the magazine.
In September Chapman talked about launching her own website and said in an interview in Der Spiegel: “The contact information for my PR people will be listed there. [But] I am not permitted to talk about my time in America.”
The Telegraph.co.uk reported that earlier this month Chapman made a surprise appearance at the remote Baikonur cosmodrome for the launch of a Russian rocket carrying a Russian-American crew into space.
FondServisBank, which works with Russian companies in the aerospace industry, said that it had hired Chapman to work for the bank, bringing innovation to its information technologies.
Since her homecoming, Chapman has been treated like a national hero and received top honors from President Dmitry Medvedev Monday in a ceremony at the Kremlin.
Chapman has grabbed the headlines recently, this being her most recent stunt since she returned to Russia in July.
Reports suggest that Chapman was trying to land a £164,000 deal to sell her story to the media and is considering posing nude for Playboy magazine.
