This is the continuation of an interview with author Rebecca Rose. Please read Part One before continuing here.
MA- What was the writing process on that book like for you? Did it come naturally or did you have to work at it?
RR- The story came naturally but there was 6 months of research on Uterine Cancer to make sure I got it right. It really bothers me when I see an author hasn’t taken the time to research there information. I didn’t want a nurse or doctor to read my novel and say, “Hey, that’s wrong.”
MA- Divine Turmoil was the Winner of the Best First Line in a novel with D. Renee Bagbyaward. How many times did you rewrite that line? And what was it?
RR- What an honor that was and still is! It was a blind vote. So, the people who voted had no idea what line came from what novel. JI rewrote the line quite a few times. It was longer, then shorter and then I finally got it right. “The blacktop stretched before her, dismal and unyielding.” I believe is expresses the lost and empty feeling my heroine, Serena, was feeling with coming home. I’m very proud of it.
MA- Divine Redemption, your second novel is part of your Divine series. Is the series a continuation of the stories?
RR- Actually, Divine Redemptiontakes place a few years before the first. It explains a few things that were in the first but don’t make sense until the third, Divine Valor.
MA- Redemption, just launched, what promotional plans do you have lined up?
RR- I have quite a few interviews I’m doing. Some live, which I find fun because you get to talk to your readers. I did a Harvest Fair on Columbus Day weekend, too.
MA- What draws you to the romance genre?
RR- I’ve always loved romance. The sweetness about it and the surprise when you find out you’re in love. What’s not to like? This genre can be a whole lot of fun!
MA- When can your fans expect to see Divine Valor?
RR- Next year, sometime. Divine Valor has taken me longer then expected because of my ‘day job’. Most authors have one and I’m excited because mine is almost gone. Within the next month or so, I’ll be a full time author. I’m living the dream, because it’s so much more than I ever thought I’d have. I love my life.
MA- What was your biggest inspiration in this series?
RR- Music. And the need to know what happened to the other characters in the first novel. It felt like unfinished business.
MA- What is your best advice for beginning writers?
RR- Research well and write what you know. Be friendly and write as much as you can and often. If you don’t know… ask. Writers love helping other writers. We’ve all been there and pay-it-forward whenever we can.
