We are into the third week of school and things are beginning to take shape. It does take a good few weeks to really get into the groove of routine, for teachers and students to become used to one another. There are some hitches to the days, for many preschool and kindergarten teachers there is always a few little ones that are apprehensive about leaving mom for the day.
An awesome story to read in the first days or weeks of school is Llama Llama misses mama by Anna Dewdney. In this quirky, rhyming tale Little Llama Llama is roused out of bed by his mama. Although the morning routine goes smoothly this day is different from others; Llama Llama heads to a new school with his mama. He sees new faces and fun things to do but is sad with out his mama, too. Llama Llama is shy as he watches the other little ones have fun and play. With his little llama toy, he waits to join the fun and he feels all alone. As lunch time approached Llama, llama, begins to cry – with some reassurance from his teacher – he is comforted as the day goes by. His new friends even try to help out, ‘Llama llama please don’t fuss, have some fun and play with us!’ Llama Llama joins the fun and before he knows it the day is done. His Mama Llama does come back and he shows her all the fun things at school. Llama Llama finds out its not so bad with Mama Llama and school is really cool.
Teachers and moms you can share Llama Llama misses Mama with your little ones. Even as the next month of school approaches, children often still experience anxiety at times and it is different for each one. There are also activities to go along with this Llama Llama book. Have fun reading and enjoy school this fall.
