Chequers Seafood and Grill is hosting their first Pinot Noir wine pairing event, they are conveniently located near Perimeter Center Mall, Atlanta. They offer an impressive seafood menu with some great steak choices for meat lovers. From the wine cellar they offer around 110 wines, 38 of them by the glass, 10 of them dessert wines. 75% of their wine menu is from AVA’s in California, Washington State and Oregon with some great selections from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. They also offer some interesting wine flights of three, priced from $9 to $14.
The Executive Chef, James Dennerline and the Checkers Seafood Grill wine enthusiasts beverage team put together an exiting pairing menu for costumers to enjoy. Quoting Chef Dennerline “I believe in using the best ingredients and technique, while maintaining a sophisticated level of simplicity.”
I asked the food and wine pairing team: What inspired you to choose the Pinot Noir varietal for this pairing menu?
“Pinot Noir is a very versatile wine that works well with many dishes. We’ve done a lot of pairings and thought it could be really cool to take a wine that is especially popular and pair it with a variety of seasonal food to bring out the flavors in the food and the wine.”

BURGUNDY PAIRING: Joseph Drouhin “LaForet”, Burgundy France with a Roasted Crimson Beet Salad with gorgonzola, pears, candied walnuts, watercress and a walnut vinaigrette.
CALIFORNIA PAIRING: Macmurray Ranch, Sonoma, CA with a Mushroom and Goat Cheese Filled Corn Crepe with wild mushrooms, goat cheese, baby spinach and red wine syrup; Toad Hollow Dry Pinot Noir Rose, Sonoma, CA with a Chocolate and Orange Tart with ganache and pistachio ice cream.
OREGON PAIRING: Erath Vineyards, Willamette Valley, Oregon with a Grilled Block Island Swordfish with butternut squash risotto and cabernet sauce or Benton Lane, Willamette Valley, Oregon with the Pappardelle and Short Rib Entrée made with pappardelle pasta, roasted root vegetables, fig demi glace.
