What Sharron Angle told Latino students is a ‘minor’ thing says Karl Rove, hardly, the “blood on the floor in Nevada” that On The Record w Greta VanSusteren | FoxNews.com described late last night.
With a shrug of his shoulders, Rove effectively diminished that little Angle gaffe, to mere conversational blogger fodder, that is after all, unimportant in the larger political landscape in the race between Sharron Angel and Harry Reid for the Senate seat in Nevada
Following is the excerpted transcript from the brief conversation:
Another controversy, Sharron Angle saying to Hispanic high school students that they look “Asian”. There’s a huge population – 26.5 percent of Nevada’s voting population is Asian. But that’s causing quite a storm in Nevada. How much trouble is she in going down to the wire on this?
Karl Rove: Well that’s not a helpful comment, of course Harry Reid had similar comments that he made earlier about Latinos, in front of a Latino group. So I think that’s a minor thing.”
The real blood on the floor in Nevada may flow from the savage attack ads just released by two outside groups:
Anti Sharron Angel: The “Ask Me” ad is an assassination ad on the character of Sharron Angle accusing her of being too extreme Multiple voices and faces are used in the ad, transcript below:
Sharron. Sharron Angel. Your ideas are just too extreme and dangerous. You told rape victims to “make a lemon situation into lemonade”. Really? Giving criminals massages. For prisoners? That is a waste of taxpayer’s money. If you’re going to prison, you’re going to serve time. You want to take care of prisoners, but yet, you want to punish victims. That’s just not right. Sharron. Sharron. You’re too dangerous to have real power, real power, over people.
Anti Harry Reid ad: The focus is on how Nevadans have fared under Harry Reid. It’s an issue ad that slams Harry on the economy, taxes, and unemployment while making the case that Harry Reid is out of touch and unsympathetic to the plight of average Nevadans who make have lost their homes. After all, Harry lives at the Ritz-Carlton. Below is the transcript of that ad, paid for by the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Narrator: Over a 100 000 more are unemployed. Under his watch, almost $5 trillion has been added to our debt. He’s voted 300 times in higher taxes and Nevada leads the nation in unemployment.
Clip of Harry: You know I had nothing to do with these unemployment figures
Narrator: To him, it’s a figure. Maybe because Harry lives at the Ritz-Carlton while thousands of Nevadans are losing their homes. The nation needs a new direction and Nevada needs jobs.
Say “No” to Harry Reid.
Bottom line: Rove sums it up saying, ” If you hate Sharron Angel and think she is an extremist, that ad isn’t going to convince one more person” and adding, “If you are concerned about the economy, and worried about jobs and spending, taxes and deficits and how that impacts the strength of the economy – the Republican ad keeps reinforcing if you’re worried about these issues, then the answers to these questions, the answers to these concerns is not Harry Reid, it’s Sharron Angel.
Early voting reports are that Republican voting is disproportionately higher than Democrats. Rasmussen Poll:Sharron Angle leading Senator Reid 50%-47.
