Stat man Tim Berry pointed out that Greenwood did not cross midfield until the first series of the second half…..Gator Quarterback Jeff Whitthuhn is a strapping, wide shouldered fellow with good athleticism, but the Patriots forced him into some mistakes…..The quick kick by the Gators in the second quarter was a little surprising but it was a testament to the field position game the coaches were playing….Jacob Drummond displayed good pursuit from his linebacker spot…..Cory Foster employed his Condor-like wing span to fight off a blocker and haul in a reamarkable interception.…..Greenwood averaged the most yards per carry than any Patriot opponent thus far, however that was only 3.34 yards….Brandon Boards now has 11 touchbacks in 28 kickoffs…..Boards is 18 of 20 on PAT’s….John T. Williams’ 33 yards per punt is very solid considering that most of his punts come in the opponents territory……The Patriots converted 2-12 3rd down conversions against Greenwood and have 28% third down efficiency for the year. The 2009 Patriots converted 38.2%……The 2009 Patriots attempted 110 third downs, an average of 9 per game. The 2010 Patriots averaged only 3.3 conversion attempts per game through the first 3 games and now average 6 per game…. At this pace, the Patriots would attempt 37 less third downs than last year. Also at this pace the 2010 Patriots would gain 72 more first downs than 2009. All of that just says the obvious: big play strikes have been an ample part of the Patriot offense so far this season….The Patriots have not recovered one of their own fumbles. The opponent has recovered 2 of their 9 drops….Zebras have penalized the Patriots 11 more times than the opponent. Each team had 8 on Friday night…..Patriot opponents have no touchbacks so far and the Patriots have kicked off 20 more times.
Lone Oak walloped a solid Caldwell County team 52-8 on Friday that had only lost 16-14 to a decent squad in Union County.. The emergence of Freshman Quarterback Cole Ousley was well underway starting with Marshall County (18-32, 215 yards) but his 25-31, 340 yard, 5 touchdown performance against Caldwell was stunning. Junior receivers Deontre Starks and Felix Colon give Ousley and the Flash a very potent aerial attack….
The Patriots open district play on October 1st versus Warren East (1-3) who lost 50-0 to Warren Central last Friday. The Raiders travel to Logan County (1-4) this week for a district tilt. A bigger showdown in this district will probably be on October 15th when the Monroe County Falcons head to Glasgow….The Scotties end the season by hosting Franklin-Simpson….Westmoreland comes to Scottsville with a 1-3 record after losing on Friday to Good Pasture 45-13.
