If you are into mid century modern design, then Retro Row is definitely the place to go. Located at 4th Street in Long Beach between Junipero and Cherry, you will find some of the best furniture shops dedicated to the mid century modern style. http://www.4thstreetlongbeach.com
Mixed in with a world famous barber shop, a skate shop, and various vintage clothing and thrift shops are five mid century modern shops with plenty of eye candy for the modern enthusiast. These are Déjà Vu, Elan Collection, The Vintage Collective, TREBOR/NEVETS, and Xcape.
Déjà Vu, with its clever name, emphasizes the fact that people should go green by “upgrading” to vintage furniture, which is a great idea! In their showroom you can find almost anything you need from Heath pottery to Capiz lighting, to desks by Barzilay, to bedroom furniture by Westnofa. They also manufacture home bars and will custom upholster them to suit your taste. http://www.dejavulongbeach.com
At Elan Collection, around the corner on St. Louis, right off 4th, the mid century modern pieces are mixed in with earlier eras, so you have to search a little more, but who knows, you may just end up with a beautiful armoire from the 1920’s! Alas, you will not be let down at all of the great items this store has available, the reasonable prices, and the friendly service the owner, Deborah has to offer. bit.ly/bMTiUk
The Vintage Collective is, at 4,000 square feet, the largest of all the shops, and it specializes in Art Deco thru Mid Century Modern. It is a consignment mall with 25 sellers, who are constantly searching out fresh new items. You could spend all day in this shop and not see all the unique pieces the sellers have to offer, so make sure you have plenty of time to browse! thevintagecollective.com/
With their interior design influence, TREBOR/NEVETS takes the cake with the presentation of their pieces. They mix up their vintage furniture and accessories with fine art, and new and custom furniture. The result is a very sophisticated feeling throughout the entire showroom. The colors and textures come together in a very eye pleasing manner. trebornevets.com
