The Material Girl is once again back in the spotlight. After decades of chart-topping CD’s and sold out world tours, Madonna is venturing into the fashion world. The junior clothing line known as ‘Material Girl’ is a joint effort between Madonna and her 13 year old daughter, Lourdes, affectionately known as Lola. The time has come for the Queen of Pop and the creative daughter to shine bright in a new endeavor.
The collection was introduced to the public on August 3rd of this year.
Climbing the escalator at Macy’s with destination ‘Junior’s Dept.’, you almost feel like you dropped into a scene from “Desperately Seeking Susan”. The clothes take you back to a time when Madonna was rising to the top as a young pop icon and the music world shaped the fashion industry.
Styles from the current collection include cute lace tulle black skirts paired with body suits or black and pink lace tube tops. Body hugging mini-skirts are complimented with V-neck tees in solid colors. A variety of leggings are put together with striped shirts and faux fur vests which are sure to be a big hit. There are a few intricately designed tees in greys and blacks with sparkle studded pockets. Outfits easily adjust from day to night. You can easily mix and match fabrics as well. Black lace adds a special touch to cowboy shirts which conjure up an image of the cover of the CD ‘Music’ by Madonna. Dresses come in a variety of designs. Some flair out at the bottom, others fit tight against the body. You can even find sweaters to welcome in the winter season.
It doesn’t end there. There are a variety of handbags, large and small, some with studs and some without in the darker colors such as black and brown. Ballet flats come in metallic shades and black studded belts with silver jewelry are even an integral part of the full collection.
Prices range from $12-$40, an affordable cost for almost everyone’s budget.
Lola was inspired to design the line by watching music videos and having a distinct sense of style which constantly surrounds her. This is certainly a brilliant way for Lola to express herself through fashion design.
Who better to represent the face of ‘Material Girl’ than Taylor Momsen known as the rebellious yet innocent and naive Jenny of CW’s hit show, Gossip Girl seen on Monday nights. Her cutting edge beauty and bold rock star attitude align well with this fresh new line. The video campaign that can be viewed on You Tube is a great way to promote the collection.
Macy’s has been chosen as the store of choice to carry the ‘Material Girl’ line. This is largely due to the accessibility factor of the department store along with its popularity.
The clothing line was strategically unveiled in time for the new school year as well as just in time for the holiday season right around the corner.
All the best to Madonna and Lola and a wish for much success in the world of fashion. Madonna has always been a trendsetter and this will be no exception. It is a guarantee that we will be seeing much more from this team in the months and years to come.
The closest Macy’s to carry this line is Macy’s at City Place, Corner of Hibiscus Street and Rosemary Avenue, WPB. For a broader range of Macy’s stores, go to www.macys.com.
