On October 16, 2010 in Syracuse , NY, the Le Moyne College men’s soccer team sailed past the Merrimack Warriors 4-0, thanks to two assists by Jesse Carr.
2:24 into the game, junior midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneatles, NY/Skaneatles) supplied a pass to freshman forward Michael Spadine (Owego, NY/Owego) who sent a scoring shot from 15 feet out into the right side of the Warrior’s goal box. 34 scoreless minutes later, the Dolphins attacked again, scoring back-to-back goals. Sophomore midfielder Vince Scaravillo (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) tapped in a goal thanks to a crossing pass by junior back Bryce Martin (Cazenovia, NY/ Chittenango).
Immediatley following the restart, Carr gained possession of a loose ball in the middle of the field and sent it towards the goalbox, where it evaded Merrimack goalkeeper Kevin Joyce (Mansfield, Mass). Senior forward for Le Moyne Angelo Reina (Frankfort, NY/ Utica Notre Dame) earned his second goal of the season by knocking the ball in from four yards out. Merrimack freshman goalkeeper Mattias Drummond from Partille, Sweden replaced Joyce after the 1st half, in which Le Moyne dominated 3-0. Drummond collected four saves as the second half wore on. With 24 minutes left in the game Drummond misjudged a high-bouncing ball, and sophomore forward for the Dolphins Cameron Green (University Heights, Ohio/ St. Ignatius) displayed his quickness by beating Drummond to the punch and kicking in his first goal of the year, securing the Dolphins’ fourth shut out of the season with a final score of 4-0, Le Moyne.
Merrimack sinks to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in the NE-10 Conference with the loss to Le Moyne, while the Dolphins improve to 7-3-3 for the year and 6-2-2 in NE-10 standings.
Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/ St. Augustine) made six saves in the game and kept his composure despite a 19-16 advantage in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks in favor of Merrimack.(http://www.merrimackathletics.com/sports/msoc/2010-11/releases/20101016z…)
On October 18, 2010, Silva was named the Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer Rookie of the Week for the third straight week.
