Krown Lounge becomes 3rd Tampa Bay bar to close within one month.
LARGO: The Krown Lounge, located at 9057 Ulmerton Road, apparently becomes the 3rd bar in Tampa Bay to shut down operations within the past month. Though there is no mention of the bars closing on the store front, or their myspace or facebook pages, the bar has apparently not been open for business since Saturday, September 18th. Also, The bars phone number has been disconnected and people were seen removing items from the bar on the morning of Monday, September 20th. Several local bands who had booked future performances at the Krown Lounge have started reporting their gigs as being canceled.
The Krown Lounge had been in business for about 2 years, opening up in 2008. Within it’s 2 years of operation, the Krown Lounge has played host to several popular local bands such as Decepcion, Blackwater Jack, Fall 2 Earth, Pinky & the Walrus, and Stick Martin Show.
Beer, Bikes & Babes, a St. Pete bar that was also owned by the same owner as the Krown Lounge, also closed up operations in the beginning of August. The owner of both popular bars, popularly known simply as “Whiskey Dave”, had been rumored to be going through some financial problems with both bars as of recent times, but these rumors have yet to be confirmed or denied. All attempts at contacting the owner or former staff of the two bars for an official comment have failed so far.
The Krown Lounge and Beer, Bikes & Babes are not the only two popular Tampa Bay bars to have closed their doors within the last month. Bourbon Street in New Port Richey also shut down operations back on August 30th as well. Popular consensus is that the poor economy is at fault for all the recent bar closings in the area, and most likely, Tampa Bay will see more bars closing their doors in the near future if the economy stays as bad as it is now, or get worse.
