Jackets, jewels and jeanology on a shoestring are often the fruits of your labors if you shop Columbia thrift shops and search for treasures. Plan to shop with a friend or relative if possible and plan to spend some time sorting through all the racks of incredible bargains. You will find apparel that is the wrong size, in poor or unacceptable condition, and outdated fashions. But, the prize is always there. It just takes a bit of hunting.
This week’s shopping expedition turned up a brand new faux leather belted jacket by White Stag. It is in mint condition and the lining if like new. It appears never to have been worn. A leather jacket, whether faux or real, is ideal for fall. It can be easily dresses up or down and is suitable for going almost anywhere. It’s just enough for the chilly mornings and evenings we have been having and will carry nicely into the milder days of winter ahead. Black f=goes with almost anything and the design is perfect for any body type, falling to below hip length and accentuating the waistline with a tie belt.
Pink is a hot color this season and faux gems and jewels are on the “must have” list. These pink, heart shaped faux jewel earrings are made in French hook style in gold. They are delicate and feminine and add a nice detail to almost any outfit. Pink is an excellent color to bring out the rosy highlights in virtually any skin tone. These are in sparkling condition and appear as good as new.
A black long sleeved tee from L.L. Bean is impossible to turn down, especially when it is in mint condition and still has the fold creases from its original packaging. The black tee has long sleeves, a scoop neck with a bit of shirring, and is made of pima cotton, one of the silkiest feeling cottons there is. Black is extremely versatile and will match almost any pants, jeans or skirts for fall. It is also outstanding for layering, especially since it is very lightweight. Just think hot sharp black would look paired with crimson, cinnamon, autumn gold or spruce green. The possibilities are endless.
Denim jeans from Newport News jeneology collection were a real fashion find in straight leg, bootcut style. They appear new and neither the tags not the fabric show any signs of having been worn. They are in an unusually difficult to find tall size, which makes them a treasure of even greater value for anyone (like me) needing tall length jeans with a 33-34 inch inseam. They are extremely versatile, easy to dress up or down, great with fall boots, and suitable for wear almost anywhere.
