The Henrico County 2010 Elections will be here in 47 days…..November 2, 2010. This information is partticularly for individuals with Special Needs or disabilities. Regardless of a person’s disability status, that person has a right to vote at any office or agency that has that service available. Some of these are the Department of Health (VDH), Department of Social Services (DSS), Department of Mental Health (DMHRSAR, Department for Rehab Services (DRS), Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) and Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI). The Registrar’s Office of Henrico County also has the necessary forms and should be able to accommodate your needs. If you prefer, forms may be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website at www.sbe.virginia.gov.
Virginia is in the process of making all of its polling places accessible to elderly voters and voters with disabilities. This is in accordance with the Help America Vote Act. If, for any reason, you find that your polling place is inaccessible, or that you have not been given the opportunity to vote in accordance with the Help America Vote Act, go online to http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/cms/Voter_Information/Voters_with_Special_Needs to make that information known.
Also, know that curb side voting should still be available for those who wish to use it. Any voter, aged 65 and older, or any person with a disability shall be afforded every opportunity to vote in a private and independent fashion, as long as the voting equipment remains in the view of the election officer.
