Hip Hip Hooray, the fun new kids store that has just opened in Northbrook, IL, is a wondrous reinvention of its owner’s previous children’s store, Hooray Array in Northfield. With decades of experience with bringing the best in children’s toys and clothing to her customers and a warm dedication to personal service, Holly has designed her newest foray into children’s retail to be a fun destination for shoppers from the suburbs north of Chicago and anyone else willing to make the trek from other parts of Chicagoland to Northbrook.
About Hip Hip Hooray Holly
Selling quality products to Chicago families runs in Holly’s blood. Holly’s mother ran a paper and partygoods store called That Paper Place in Skokie and then Northfield, and Holly ran the Northfield location for 10 years before deciding to take what she had learned about bringing great products to the public in innovative ways and start her own store dedicated to doing the same thing with children’s products.
Holly then founded her original store, Hooray Array, in 1985 in Northfield, IL, as a shop that specialized in the best children’s toys, gifts, and clothing. It was a popular store, marked by attention to customer service, quality, and creativity, and Holly ran it for 20 years before becoming a bit tired and accepting a customer’s offer to buy the store from her. Unfortunately, the new owner did not have Holly’s magic touch, and Hooray Array closed two and a half years later.
Meanwhile, Holly kept bumping into old customers and friends whose lives and children’s lives her store had touched in such a positive way. Holly’s hands had been tied by a noncompete agreement, but once Hooray Array folded, Holly was free to start thinking about how to reinvent her store and start selling quality children’s products once again in a new way. Eventually she found the location for Hip Hip Hooray and began stocking it with the best kids’ merchandise she could find, although she was and is disappointed with the difficulty she encountered trying to find top quality products that are made in America.
Hip Hip Hooray children’s toy store review
The care Holly takes in selecting and presenting children’s toys, clothing, and gifts to her customers is apparent in everything from the imaginative product displays set up around her new store to the attention she paid to adjusting and readjusting the toys on the shelves and floor before they were photographed for the slideshow that accompanies this review. Her store is a showcase of creative specialty toys and other products that offers these treasures up to the public in artistic and playful ways.
The toys, clothes, games, and other products sold at Hip Hip Hooray are of uniformly good quality and the best brands, and the variety of types of products and of each type of product is dizzying. With one stop, a parent can find everything from baby, girls’, and boys’ clothing items to girls’ and boys’ backpacks to creative art supplies and craft kits to bath toys to infant and toddler toys to baby keepsakes to small classic and novelty toys to science kits to puppets and dolls to preschool games to a selection of candy.
One corner of the store is devoted to one of Holly’s specialties — fine dress-up outfits and accessories. Not only can kids check out racks of princess dresses and construction worker and cowboy outfits, bins of fancy shoes, many kinds of hats, tiaras, boas, toy weapons, and other fun pretend play accessories, but they can also try on costumes in private curtained spacious changing rooms and see how the outfits look by viewing themselves in a tall mirror.

Overall, Hip Hip Hooray is well worth a visit no matter where in Chicagoland a family lives. In a single trip, visitors can find everything from baby shower gifts to birthday and holiday gifts to Halloween costumes to everyday hip girls and boys clothes to cool school bags to playroom essentials to toys perfect for a car or airplane trip. Several of Holly’s old customers stopped by during this review visit to her store, and everyone was equally delighted that she would once more be selling great toys, gifts, and clothing to Chicago kids.
