What’s that, you say—you don’t believe in ghosts? Fine, but do you believe in clowns? Sinister clowns, their painted-on lips twisted downward into a hideous sneer?
That’s one of the items on the menu at the Halloween shindig planned for Saturday, Oct. 30, and Halloween night, the 31, at Carnival, above Bowlmor Lanes on University Place. In addition to the promise of 16,000 square feet of party space populated by the aforementioned clowns, stilt-walkers, and flame-swallowers, the event will feature a “Drunk Tank,” a two-gallon mix of Absolut Vodka, Malibu Rum, Beefeater Gin, and fruit juice. Tickets start at $25 for general admission. Carnival is located at 110 University Place, 212-600-9297.
It’s one price (of $35) fits all at Amensia NYC, which will be transformed on Oct. 30 into a “haunted bloodhouse.” Costumes are advised, and superstar DJs are advertised. Amnesia NYC is located at 609 West 29th Street, 212-600-9297
If it’s more blood you want, then Blood Manor may be what the vampire ordered. Here the clowns have chainsaws, and you’ll encounter things that go bump in the night. Should you still feel isolated from the action as you navigate the labyrinth of passageways, toward the end of the evening everyone dons 3D glasses. According to the website, it takes approximately 20 minutes to complete a circuit. Tickets cost $30 online. Students pay $20 on selected nights. 542 W 27th Street, bet Tenth and Eleventh Aves.
For those who would prefer the comfort of throwing up in their own toilet after an evening of over-imbibing, the makers of Pernod Absinthe and Ketel One Vodka have the perfect makings of a stay-at-home Halloween partay. Absinthe was the beverage of choice of Edgar Allan Poe (did someone say Halloween?). Pernod recommends using the spirit to concoct Green Beast cocktails—1 part absinthe, 2 of lime juice, and 4 of water per serving. Garnish with cucumber slices. Pernod Absinthe retails for $65 per bottle.
Ketel One’s contribution to a pumpkin night bash focuses on their Oranje-flavored vodka. Among the cocktail options that use the spirit is the Green Goblin (a theme is emerging). The recipe, which makes 8 to 10 cocktails, calls for 2 cups of Oranje, 1½ cups green tea, ¼ cup lime juice, and ¼ cup sour mix. Garnish with lime wedges. Ketel One Oranje retails for $30 a bottle.
