Glow Festival 2010

by echo flam

Asking around town, it doesn’t seem that a whole lot of people know a lot about the 2010 GLOW Festival.  Well get informed and come out to enjoy.   GLOW is a free all night interactive art event on the beach in Santa Monica, and it is this coming weekend on Saturday, September 25 from 7pm til 3am.  There will be art, there will be food, music and bike valets to help make this the incredible scene it started out to be in 2008.  That year Glow went all night long, but they have shortened the proceedings by a few hours.

KCRW is involved with GLOW, and there will also be local and international artists that make this a special event.  DJ and music director Jason Bentley has an audio guide HERE that gives you similar information in case I miss anything you may want to know.

Food, drink and hotel specials are a major part of the fun. A multitude of restaurants and businesses near the action will be open until 4 a.m., with many offering Glow specials. In addition, two food truck courts will provide food choices on the beach north and south of the pier. (Alcohol service ends at 2 a.m. per state law, or at an earlier time in accordance with the establishment’s Conditional Use Permit.) Twelve Santa Monica hotels are offering low-rate Glow packages that include late checkout, complimentary breakfast and “glowing” specials such as picnic baskets and signature cocktails.

Retail businesses will also offer specials such as discounts on arcade games, manicures and pedicures and special Glow items.

A list of specials will also be in the event’s printed program, and a continuously updated list of Glow specials is posted on www.santamonica.com/glow. This is particularly helpful for out-of-towners as the Glow website has a ton of local inns and places to eat listed right on the site for your convenience.

Traffic and parking may be challenging at certain times during the event. Flat rate event parking will be in effect in city lots west of Lincoln, ranging from $5 – $20. The easiest and least expensive parking will be in the beach lots south of Pico Blvd. and north of the California incline. For real-time parking availability, please visit www.smgov.net/parkingspacenow

GLOW will have amazing artists on tap with unique perspectives from all walks of life on parade, offering a little bit of something for everyone.
