The long-awaited opening of Fish Story Napa is finally here with a very welcome diversity of seafood dishes including raw bar selections, clam chowders, louie salads, lobster rolls, whole grilled fish, whole crab or lobster and featured dishes. The Riverfront venue is spacious and bright, with floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the Napa River and the 3rdStreet Bridge. Its corner location and outdoor seating makes the space very inviting indeed. The main dining room seats 60 while the bar area on the Main Street side seats 24. The entry courtyard and indoor-outdoor Riverfront Room add another 44 seats.
All the seafood selected at the restaurant conform to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s West Coast Sustainable Seafood Guide which identifies fish that are most plentiful to catch. Diners can choose the day’s fish prepared simply or select from the featured dishes which today include petrale sole with wild arugula, grilled artichoke, olive and onion relish, pacific halibut with cranberry beans, fennel, gypsy peppers and watercress, and Idaho trout with a warm bacon-toasted almond vinaigrette. American favorites included fried Ipswich full belly clams with fries and coleslaw, rock cod fish and chips or shrimp & grits.
The menu was developed by Chef Stephen Barber, recently of BarbersQ in Napa, and before then at highly rated MECCA Restaurant in San Francisco. His deftness with seafood was also cultivated working on the Florida Coast for four years at iconic chef Norman van Aken’s Norman’s Restaurant. His menu is inspired by what is seasonal, locally available and sustainably produced.
The diversity of seafood is complemented by a very well-selected, mostly white wine list of 175 wines from around-the-world including California, Champagne, Rias Baixas, Rheingau, Chablis and Austria. There are over 20 wines by the glass plus wines on tap! Fish Story Napa offers a full bar with classic and artisanal cocktails, Fish Story house-brewed pale ale and non-alcoholic sodas, lemonades and “zero-proof” cocktails. Bar menu will be offered from 2:30-5:30 p.m. daily and happy hour menu from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
