A good skin regimen includes using great skin care products and exfoliating. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer surface of the skin. The skin is always generating new skin cells and as they rise to the top layer of the skin, they die. As we age, the process of generating those new cells slows down. Exfoliation benefits the skin because it removes those dead skin cells making way for healthier and fresher looking skin. Exfoliating also helps skin care products penetrate deeper into the skin. Some types of exfoliation are chemical peels, microdermabrasion, salt or sugar body scrubs and skin brushing.
My at-home method is skin brushing. My favorite exfoliating tool is the Clarisonic Plus Sonic Cleansing System. It’s a re-chargeable sonic cleansing brush that has 3 speed options for the face and a body speed. The brush gently removes oil, dirt, debris and dead skin cells from the skin. You can use your favorite facial or body cleanser with the brush. The Plus retails for $225. You can also purchase just the facial brush. There is the Classic model and the Mia, which is the compact model you can take anywhere. All the brushes come in a variety of colors. The Classic retails for $195 and the Mia retails for $149. You may find some good deals at QVC on different models.
Some tips to remember when exfoliating:
Take special care when exfoliating the face. The skin on your face is more delicate.
Be sure not to over exfoliate your skin, especially if you have aging or sensitive skin. 1-2 times a week is the average frequency..
Avoid waxing areas you’ve recently exfoliated, for example, the eyebrows and bikini. Waiting a week is recommended.
Exfoliating the body in the morning is a great pick me up to start your day.
Enjoy your smoother, fresh-looking skin.
