Mister C’s Beach Bistro is offering what appears to be a delicious foray into the world of wine from the Rhône Valley: Côte du Rhônes and Châteneuf du Pape from one of the most respected producers: E. Guigal Chateau d’Ampuis.
Promptly at 7:00PM on Friday, November 12, 2010 Stephanie Ferrier a representative from the winery will be on hand to discuss the wines and the Guigal winery. Ms. Ferrier will also be on hand to sign bottles and answer any questions throughout the evening.
The Guigal family owns vineyards in Condrieu and in the Côte-Rôtie with illustrious plots producing wines such as ‘La Doriane’ in Condrieu, the famous growths of the Côte-Rôtie ‘La Mouline’, ‘La Turque’ and ‘La Landonne’, Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis, Hermitage ‘Ex-Voto’, produced only in the great vintages and Saint-Joseph ‘Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph’ in red and white, as well as the famous Saint-Joseph red: ‘Vignes de l’Hospice‘. These wines have each become flagships of their appellations.
In the Guigal estate cellars in Ampuis, the northern appellations of the Rhône Valley (Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage) are produced and aged along with the great appellations of the Southern Rhône (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône). Châteneuf du Pape wine can have up to thirteen different grapes as part of the blend, and the E. Guigal Châteneuf du Pape is a blend of 80% old Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% other grapes as allowed will be one of the featured wines at the dinner.
Three of the classic wines for this dinner come from the Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph vineyardss that make up the northern Côtes-du-Rhône. the first to be sampled that evening will be E Guigal Côtes-du-Rhône Rosé. This wine is a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah. The second wine, E Giugal Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is a blend of 55% Viognier, 20% Roussane, 10% Marsanne, 10% Clairette, and 5% Bourboulenc. Both of these wines come from vines with an average age of 25years. Our third Côte du Rhône is E Guigal Côtes du Rhône Rouge, is also a blend of the classic Rhône varietals: 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 10% Mourvèdre. the average age of the vines used to produce this wine are 35 years.
The dessert wine will be Chateau des Palmiers Sauternes, this is a traditional blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc that has been infected with the “noble rot”, Botrytis Cinerea. This wine is rich, honied wines bursting with notes of vanilla, coconut, dried apricots and subtle spice tones that will perfectly match the menu’s Caramelized Apple Tart.
