The Bridger Scouts and the Absarokee Huskies have been fighting for southern division supremacy since the Huskies made the move back to class c from class b in 2005. Bridger beat the Huskies in the district, divisional, and state championships. Both teams have proven that they can both come back strong after being devastated by graduation. The Huskies were the favorites to win the state championship in 2006 after they brought back nearly every player from their team in 2005. The senior loaded team however would fall short and finish sixth in the state; a finish nobody really saw coming. The next year the Huskies were written off, and labeled a rebuilding team. At first they did struggle, losing to the Scouts in the opener, but they ran the table and won the 4c title and finished with an extremely respectable 3rd place in the state. In the 08-09 season the Huskies were primed for another run at the state title. They had arguably some of the best hitters in the state with Jessie Studiner, Nicki Brewer, and Abbey Harper and an all-state setter in Katie Fijare. They ran into a rather large speed bump in their rival, the Scouts. The Scouts boasted four year starter and all-state hitter Leann Dorvall and Jessica Denney, along with a very good setter in Katie George. The Scouts won the district championship, but the Huskies would win the divisional championship. The final showdown would come down to the state tournament once again. It was close the entire game, but the Scouts outmuscled the Huskies and sent them home. Between the two teams they would graduate 5 all-state players. While both teams were very good throughout the next season the Joliet J-Hawks would break the dominance of the 4c and win the district. This year the Scouts, Huskies, and J-Hawks are sitting at the top of the 4c with an upcoming matchup between the Scouts and Huskies this Saturday. The first matchup between these two teams was hotly contested coming down to the very end. The Huskies got the best of the Scouts after a couple of very controversial calls to end the game. As the season has gone on however, the Scouts Wendi Mudd, Kyla Young and Andrea Sticka have proven to be some of the top hitters in the district. The Huskies boast one of the best hitters as well in Bailey Cortner; who had a game high 19 kills in their previous matchup. If there is one thing I can guarantee, its that this will be another great game between these two teams. Bridger will be playing to avenge the loss in their first matchup with some added adrenaline because of this game being their senior night. So Scout and Husky fans alike will pack the Bridger gym expecting to see another great game between the two 4c powerhouses!
