“A merry heart does good like a medicine”! Prov 17:22: “A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.” ASV
When we are going through a lot of negative stress, it is very difficult to keep our minds and hearts positive. But we must strive to look on the positive even when things look negative. Remember that God said if we love Him, all things will work out for the best for us!
Rom 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Think about things that make you happy, meditate on your blessings!
Prov. 15:13: “A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.” RSV
Pro 15:15: “All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” KJV
Pro 15:30: “The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.”
Phil 4:8:“ Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” (NASU New American Standard Bible – Updated edition)
Dr. Merrill of “Family First” writes on “Dwelling on What is Good” His blog on how a dog is positive and how we should cultivate positive thinking is very appropro! www.markmerrill.com/
We have so much to look forward to, and negative thoughts are generally caused by living in and looking back at the past instead of looking onward and walking forward towards the future!
Jer 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (New International Version) PC Study Bible)
For two weeks after the cave–in, the 33 miners in Chile surely had a negative situation they were living in without hope of getting out alive! Nothing positive for them to look for until they found out there was a rescue team working on finding a way to get them out! Then for the next 55 or so days they had to keep their hopes up and think on positive things until they could come out of that mine alive where they had been imprisoned in the earth for 69 days!
They may have been thinking on scriptures such as Psalm 16:8-9: “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.”
When they came to the surface each one of them had great attitudes and thanked God for their lives! How can we think negatively when these miners went through torment for two weeks thinking they would surely die and then another 55 or so days wondering when or if they would ever come out! How would we have fared? Would we have lost our hope and sanity?Or would we have had a merry heart?
