Another elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” is on its way and if Bristol Palin doesn’t rub elbows with the exit door, she’s within arms reach of getting the axe. Even if young Palin pulls out all the stops to fight for the Mirrorball Trophy, she’ll still have huge challenges facing her on the floor.
SHE’S NOT SHAPING UP
Unlike other contestants who are already boasting weight loss and complaining of aching feet, Bristol says she’s endured none of the above. In a recent interview, she said she feels most contestants are so stressed they aren’t eating and, for her, that’s never been a problem.
“I haven’t really noticed a change in [my body],” the 19-year-old said. “…I’m just having fun with the show right now.”
TOO BLAND FOR THE BALLROOM
Without any emotion, Bristol is leaving the judges “confused” and “lost”. When “DWTS” host Brooke Burke asks her about her mom or what’s she’s most excited about on the show, the anti-sex advocate and daughter of former VP Candidate Sarah Palin offers a simple “yes” or “no” answer and forces a cracked smile.
“Bristol spent the whole routine with that fixed grin on her face and is as boring a dancer as she is in person,” writes one blogger. “Seriously the woman has had a personality bypass… no wonder she and Levi got along so well – can you imagine their dinner table conversation.”
All in all, fans and the media are calling Bristol’s interview moments at the very least – Awkward.
SHE’S TOO HONEST
Despite being Sarah Palin’s daughter on the speaking circuit, Bristol says has a hard time being anyone but herself. When “Story Week” came about in the competition and Bristol was called to play a part, she struggled finding a comfortable acting point on stage.
“I didn’t like that much,” judge Len Goodman said after seeing Bristol’s acting dance, while judge Bruno chimed in too, saying, “You’ve got to feel it and we’ve got to see that you feel it.”
Bristol responded saying, “I’m definitely not trying to be an actress…Hopefully next week, though, I can try to put some more emotion into it and just sell it.”
SHE CAN’T SEX IT UP “SEXY STYLE”
Joanna Krupa and Nicole Scherzinger didn’t do well on “Dancing with the Stars” because they stayed covered up. Let’s be real. There’s a reason “Hills” star Audrina Patridge is receiving tons of remarks and publicity based on her snazzy costumes and killer bod.
And while former competitor Erin Andrews was based and publicly defended for wearing sexy, dance costumes, Bristol Palin’s outfits are being placed on the “Modest Meter” by the Huffington Post. Each and every week, Bristol is evaluated by Post readers who can weigh in on whether or not the teen is being modest or not.
As mentioned in a previous post, Bristol’s “DWTS” critics have called her “Miss Piggy” and named her figure “Hefty, Hefty, Hefty”. Journalist Caroline Heldman for Ms. Magazine asked her readers where the feminists were.
“Why aren’t more feminists pushing back against the sexism and degradation of single, teen mothers evident here? Sarah Palin’s anti-woman policy positions are not grounds for feminists to turn a blind eye when Bristol is being dragged through the sexist media mud.”
But Bristol’s different. And, among other things, it could cost her the contest.
HER ONE SAVING GRACE: THE CONSERVATIVE CROWD
For all the haters out there, Bristol says she’s got a trick card up her sleeve – Her public speaking on the conservative topic of abstinence. When asked about how her audience feels about her being on the show, she said she always gets good feedback and more voters.
“They’re always like, ‘Oh, I’ve never watched the show before, but now I’m glued to it, rooting for you!’ It’s awesome.”
