Establish your home-based business identity in seven steps: Create business cards and letterhead
New home-based businesses on a shoestring budget will be relieved to learn that there are many options for finding affordable marketing materials including essentials such as logo design, business cards, and letterhead. Your business logo should match your business name and tagline. The tagline should complement or restate one of your company’s objectives that will allow you to reach your goal, or mission statement. It is important to make sure that the business name, tagline, and logo are not already in use by another company to avoid copyright violation.
If you do not feel creative enough to design your own logo, ask an expert. There are many affordable, freelance marketing and graphic design experts, including other new home-based business owners, available that would appreciate the work. If your budget does not allow for you to pay for the cost of logo design, then perhaps you can negotiate a trade for services or products.
Creating your own business cards and letterhead is an option if you have design skills and can base your design around the requirements from your print vendor. Printing your own business cards on perforated business card stock from a local office supply store is impermissible. This may be one of the first impressions that a prospect may have about you and your business. Don’t let that first impression be that you are cheap and unprofessional.
Vistaprint is a company that provides affordable marketing materials that include everything from business cards to hats and t-shirts to large banners. Become a Vistaprint Insider to receive exclusive offers and tips and you can take advantage of free offers in which you will only pay for shipping.
