Serene Comfort is a website worth a love letter. I wrote it, and I’ll tell you why.
Because of the astonishingly cold spring and summer we just had in San Francisco I had a mighty yen for one of the Lanz nightgowns of my youth. Lanz on Geary Street in San Francisco is long-gone, so I looked in several stores and could not find one of those feminine cuddly neck-to-toe drops of Tyrolean-print flannel promising to protect against even a biting Alpine air.
Aha. I knew where I had hopes. I went right to my friendly neighborhood internet, typed in “Lanz nightgowns,” and was taken to Serene Comfort, the website from which I ordered exactly what I had in mind. It was so easy. The choices were fabulous, and the nightgowns arrived at my door in a couple of days. Oh, free shipping on orders over $50. What angels! When Elizabeth Kelly, creator and owner of Serene Comfort got my note, she wrote right back. Yes, we have become e-friends and pen-pals in a 21st century internet way. Don’t ever underestimate the power of a thank you note, which is definitely a kind of a love letter.
Let me remind you all that even though you double click your way to what may seem an anonymous source, behind every website there is a person or a team working creatively and with dedication to your happiness. If you like something shouldn’t you put that appreciation into some pesonal form and say thank you? I vote “yes” on that. Someone deserves a thank you and will be very happy to hear from you.
Elizabeth knows a lot about cozy comfort from her 10 years as President of Acorn Products, a comfort slipper manufacturer in Maine, and she wanted to share that luxury with women everywhere. Once back in her home state of Massachusetts after her daughter Serena was born, Elizabeth and her husband formed Serene Comfort, which opened, as they say, its “web doors” in 2004 for women wanting at home comfort.
Holiday time is coming. Winter. Cold nights. And maybe the luxury of crawling into bed draped in delicious plaid or holiday red flowers with those Lanz heart-buttons. Hurry if you want to get in line before I do. Oh, never mind that. It is a website; the doors are open 24 hours a day and you will be the only person in line.
Let me say that the power of Lanz nightgowns to bring back memories of a snuggly youth is enormous! And, the combined joy of comfort and nostalgia makes sleep all the sweeter. Thank you Elizabeth Kelly and Serene Comfort. For the nightgowns and for the dear pen-pal friendship we now have.
From me to you with love in the air,
