Dutch butter squares are very similar to shortbread squares. They contain just 4 ingredients and have a rich and buttery flavor.
Dutch Butter Squares
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups flour
Cream butter and sugar.
Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
Add egg. Beat well.
Add flour and mix until well blended. Mixture will be sticky.
Divide dough in half and place each portion is a well greaded (or no-stick foil lined) 8 inch square baking dish.
With floured hands, press dough evenly into pans.
Place pans in cold oven.
Bake at 350* for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove from pans and cool on wire racks.
