Matthew 6:6 makes it very clear that Christians are supposed to pray in a quiet space where they are alone.
Nothing Jesus commands advocates Christians to pray in public before sporting events.
The New International Version reads, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
The New Living Translation reads, “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
The King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) reads, “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
Therefore, if one is truly interested in religious practice of Christianity then perhaps one should follow the example of Jesus Christ and obey the Law of the Bible.
Pre-game prayer is nothing more than the endorsement of Christianity on goverment property at a government sponsored event.
