Capone’s is a popular restaurant whether it is in Coeur d’Alene or Post Falls. It is a great place to watch all your favorite sports games and the service is always top notch. So why is it then that the food consistency at the Coeur d’Alene location is spotty, yet Post Falls nails it every time? There is a new, improved menu at both locations and the restaurant has done a fantastic job with adding new items to the menu as well as adding personal size pizzas, which is a big plus.
The restaurant is always featuring a pizza of the month and guaranteed the selection will be something you may have heard of, but Capone’s always adds some kind of kicker ingredients to make it stand out. The Taco Pizza may sound a little strange with its salsa base, crushed tortilla chips and jalapenos but it is unique and very tasty. New selections on the menu include Idaho Nachos, Sliders, Haystack and Country Club Salads. New grinders are Roast Beef and Ross Pointer a chicken grinder with garlic, red sauce and fresh mozzarella. Even without these new selections, the menu continues to impress as to the varieties and the prices. The hamburgers which are steamed in beer are incredible and never a disappointment.
Now to the differences. On a recent visit to the CDA location, a meatball sub was ordered. It came out completely cold. It was of course sent back and in about 20 minutes, (yes 20 minutes), it was replaced with another meatball sub, lukewarm at best with only tomato sauce on one half. Since all dinner companions had finished their meals, there was not another option for a third attempt at this dish. Fast forward to Post Falls, and again the same meatball dish was ordered. It came out hot, steamy, full of tomato sauce and was delicious. Just recently went back to the CDA location and just wanted to see what would happen if the same dish was ordered again. A dinner companion ordered it and it came out cold – again. Sent back a second time and when it was returned it was warm but not hot. It seems that the Post Falls location has consistently the best food in regards to speed of food delivery, temperature of the dish and if you put in a special request it is always honored. Special requests are taken at the Coeur d’Alene location but the order, when it arrives, is usually missing what you asked for. Several servers at the Post Falls location report that they are hearing quite a bit from customers who come in to that restaurant saying they prefer the food there over the Coeur d’Alene location.
The locations are now making all their own bread and and it smells heavenly just walking in. Give the new menu a try, check out all of the sports memorabilia, and try their many micobrews. Plan on going early if there are any games on as these restaurants are hopping especially is local college games are playing. Capone’s is located at 751 N. 4th St. Coeur d’Alene; Post Falls location is 315 N. Ross Point Rd. Open at 11 am, kitchen closes at 11 p.m. but the bar stays open.
