Almost everyone loves to root for the underdog. A band that could be described as metals version of Rocky, have for decades influenced some of the great bands in their respective genre. Back in the 80’s it was one big spandex, heavy metal soirée but it seems that Anvil was not invited to the party and if they were invited, the party hosts sent them home through the back door before the party had actually got going.
This band has been knocked to the mat more than a few times but they kept getting right back up and finally delivered a knock out punch of their own to achieve a victory that for years had been denied to them.
Anvil is one of the most respected and revered groups in the rock arena. Some of the best metal groups in the biz, Megadeath, Anthrax, Metallica, Guns N Roses cite Anvil as a major inspiration. They were considered perhaps of of the greatest bands that few had heard of. They resided in obscurity for several years. That is until a wonderfully produced and written independent film, The Story of Anvil, directed by former Anvil roadie, Sacha Gervasi hit theaters in 2008.
The film received critical acclaim from many major publications. Film maker Michael Moore called it one of the best documentaries ever made.
Because of the popularity of the film, the group rose from the ashes and gained renewed recognition. As a result, the group was tapped to open for opening AC/DC and Saxon. In addition, the group made several appearances at major heavy metal festivals, including Download and Loud Park which followed the release of the film.
Whether you are a fan of metal or Anvil matters little in terms of the films appeal. This is a film that transcends music and celebrates family, friendship, loyalty, faith, perseverance and beating the odds. The movie and the band Anvil connects and resonates with anyone who was ever told they are not good enough, talented enough, pretty enough or that they are too old to pursue their dreams.
Anvil, fresh off a massive and very successful European tour make their way to The Emerald City and Bumbershoot on Monday, September 6th to rock Seattle for the first time in years. The group will take the Center Square Stage at 6:30pm.
The group will be signing autographs for fans Lips and drummer Robb Reiner, and bassist G5 will be signing autographs for fans signing at FYE Tent at 8pm.
Seattle Music Insider will be there to cover the show and report back next week. In the meantime, We invite you to listen to the conversation with the band’s spiritual leader, guitarist and vocalist, Steve Lips Kudlow on SMI Radio.
Kudlow talks about the bands renaissance, the philosophy and attitude that drives and motivates him. In addition, he talks about the creative process, the current line up and the groups forthcoming album, “Juggernaught of Justice.”

About Anvil .
Anvil is a three piece heavy metal power trio comprised of Steve “Lips” Kudlow (lead vocals, lead guitar), Robb Reiner (drums), and Glenn Five (bass, backing vocals). Anvil has released thirteen studio albums.
The group was co-founded by singer/guitarist Steve Lips Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner has been listed by many as one of the creators of the thrash/speed metal genre (especially on such Chris Tsangarides-produced classics as 1982s Metal on Metal and 1983s Forged in Fire).
Due to subsequent bad record deals, bad management, and just plain bad luck, Anvil appeared to take a back seat to a new wave of metal bands most of which listed the group as a prime influence. However, Anvil has never stopped rocking, and with the arrival of the critically-acclaimed/surprise hit film, Anvil! The Story of Anvil (directed by Sacha Gervasi), the group is back where they belong at the forefront of heavy metal. To read more please visit, http://www.anvilmetal.com
