This weekend at Anime Weekend Atlanta, people in the Cumberland Mall area may run into many attendees strolling around in full costume. AWA is known by many cosplay enthusiasts as one of the conventions that promotes and supports the costuming community. As a cosplayer myself, I know that many of us have had both exhilarating and frustrating experiences delving into the cosplay world. It’s not as if they have patterns at the local sewing store for Naruto jackets, Tekken Tournament character pants, or Big Daddy helmets. Luckily for us, AWA has scheduled various panels focused on the art of cosplay listen to experts teach various techniques, tips and tricks of the trade.
One of the panel experts for the Cosplay Panel track, Catherine Jones, lives locally in Atlanta and has made a career of creating custom wigs and costumes for clients with her company God Save the Queen Fashions. She can be found at AWA at the God Save the Queen Fashions booth in Artists’ Alley, or on various panels with other cosplay experts throughout the weekend.
Highlights of the Cosplay Panel Schedule include:
Friday Sept 17 @ 6pm – Costuming w/ GSTQ – Various cosplay panel experts discuss costuming techniques.
Saturday Sept 18 @ 10am – Making Big Sister – Various cosplay panel experts discuss the successful creation of Bioshock costumes. Groups involved include GSTQ, Lab 604 and Outland Armour
Saturday Sept 18 @ 3:30pm – Makeup/Crossplay – Various costuming panel experts, including Catherine Jones and Nicole Paige Brooks of God Save the Queen Fashions, discuss costuming and crossplay makeup techniques.
