Bill O’Reilly raised Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar’s blood pressure on “The View” today, hitting on topics such as President Obama and the Islamic cultural center that some object to building near Ground Zero in New York. O’Reilly, who was a guest on “The View” but makes his money at Fox News, caused such a stir that Goldberg and Behar walked off the set in frustration.
But was it real or fake? Bill O’Reilly makes almost anyone angry, but “The View” often finds a way to be in the news. The women always seem to bark at each other, too, with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the young-but-staunch conservative, coming off the most combative.
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar may have had a legitimate beef with Bill O’Reilly, but storming off the set in a huff when you know from the outset what O’Reilly is about? When he was invited to ignite debate and inject controversy?
I like “The View.” I’m far from an avid viewer but I like that women get to voice their opinion without being shouted over or debased like Joe Scarborough does Mika Brzezinski on “Morning Joe.” Still, this seemed extreme, for even “The View.” It resembled like a highly choreographed stunt, something more in line with the WWE than ABC.
That’s not to say that the anger or passion wasn’t genuine. It likely was. But to walk off the set? That’s a bit much, even for a show that can contain more melodrama than “General Hospital.”
But you be the judge. In the vertical column to the left, watch Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Bill O’Reilly argue over hot button political issues on “The View.” In your opinion, was the outrage real or staged?
