In Seventh Century Poland a terrible monster struck fear into the hearts of its citizens: a dragon that was said to leave death, destruction and charred earth in its wake. It had jaws that could crush a bison and swallow it whole, teeth that would never let go of its prey, scales that snapped the sharpest of swords, fire that scorched the earth, and wings that carried it with great speed. The name of this terrifying beast is The Dragon Smok. Many knights tried to kill the beast, many virgins were sacrificed, but all was in vain until a lowly cobbler named Krak devised a plan. He stuffed a sheep with sulpher and laid the bait at the entrance to the dragon’s cave. The Dragon Smok swallowed the sheep whole, after which the sulpher-laden meal expanded in the Dragon’s stomach and the monster perished. In tribute, the Polish city now bears the cobbler’s name: Krakow.
Beast Legends investigates and creates incredible creatures: Unidentified Mysterious Animals…animals unknown to science. In the same way that paleontology speculates about what dinosaurs were really like, our experts now do the same for creatures of legend.
The Beast Legends dragon has the head of a rhinocerous, the fangs of a snake, the electrical spark of an eel, wing membranes, and alligator armor. It is truly an amalgam of horrors. The smok dragon is a forest-dweller, larger than a man but not by much. It mixes methane in its gizzard and expels it along with oxygen, which is in turn sparked by the polarity between its fangs — this ignites a gout of fire. The smok dragon is also an adept climber and glider, scurrying up tall mountains or buildings and then gliding down to ambush opponents.

A swallowed creature can also cut its way out by using claws or a Small or Tiny slashing weapon to deal 25 points of damage to the gizzard (AC 20).
