Atlanta’s renowned Atlantic Station plays host daily to an eclectic menagerie of upscale shops, fine dining establishments, trendy clubs, and exciting community events. This month, they invite you to lace up your running shoes and head down I-85/I-75 to show your support to these two incredible causes:
American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”
When: Saturday, October 23; Registration begins in Atlantic Station at 8 a.m.; Walk begins at 9 a.m.
What: “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” is the American Cancer Society’s premier event designed to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast cancer. Taking place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” gives participants the opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors, to remember people they’ve lost, and to raise both funds and awareness to help end this devastating disease. There is no registration fee or minimum fundraising amount, and people of all ages are welcome to participate. For additional information or to pre-register online, click here.
The Match Foundation’s “Be The One Run”
When: Saturday, October 30; Event Village in Central Park opens at 6 a.m.; 1k and 5k Runs begin at 8 a.m.; Tot Trot begins at 9:15 a.m.
What: Be The One Run is a walk and run event for people of all ages and fitness levels designed to raise funds, awareness and to give patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and 70 other life-threatening diseases a second chance at life. Each year 10,000 patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or one of 70 other life-threatening diseases require a marrow transplant to survive, but have no donor match in their family. Be The Match® helps these patients find an unrelated matching marrow donor and receive the transplant they so desperately need. Through Be The Match Foundation®, Be The One Run raises funds to support marrow transplant research and help patients with uninsured treatment costs. The event features a 5K, a 1K Fun Run and Tot Trot – followed by an awards ceremony. To register, donate, or sign up to volunteer online, please visit www.BeTheOneRun.org.
Why not design an impromptu Fall staycation in downtown Atlanta around one or (even better) BOTH of these runs? Unlace those running shoes, shower off in style, then head back down to the Station for a day of strolling through the shops, and an evening filled with wining and dining in celebration of your good efforts.
